The International Disabled Self-Defense Association (IDSA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 by Master Instructor Jurgen Schmidt.  He developed a response to crimes perpetrated against individuals with disabilities.  Once considered as “helpless and easy targets”, Master Schmidt developed the “Defense-Ability” system of self defense.  Based on the Martial Arts style of Combat Hapkido and adapted for various disabilities.

The IDSA Defense-Ability self defense curriculum offers one of the most comprehensive, practical and effective training programs ever developed.  Suitable for use by individuals with a variety of disabilities as well as able-bodied individuals interested in learning self-defense.  IDSA offers a wide range of dynamic programs, products, services, seminars and support.  These bridge the “disabilities and defensive strategies” gap among people with disabilities.

Not all disabilities are the same, neither are the applications of defensive techniques.  Our highly skilled and experienced IDSA Instructors work with rehabilitation professionals continuously.  Constantly developing, improving and implementing unique, exciting and specialized new programs that meet the diverse requirements and interests our students.
